New Adventure

We have had a crazy couple of weeks!  As always, school got off to a busy start.  New school, friends, routine, and house all in the first week!  We discovered the week before school started that we would need to be moving within the next 60 days.   That kind of news can really throw a "kink" in your plans!  But, we were blessed to find a beautiful condo between the Intracoastal and the beach, and we moved the following weekend!  We love the condo life!  We have had more fun fishing, swimming, and riding our bikes than we ever thought possible!

Seth started this year at Rymfire Elementary and was blessed to have Mrs. Araujo (who goes to our church) as his teacher!

He did great adjusting to a big school and making friends and he loved Mrs. Araujo!!

Over the first five weeks of school, it became appearant to us that we needed to make some changes to Seth's schooling once again.  After seeking wise counsel and carefully evaluating Seth as a whole, God has led our steps back to home-schooling.   We will be creating a hands-on environment from which Seth will be able to express his creative abilities while learning at the same time.  God has blessed us with several people in our lives who will be helping us along this journey.  Today was Seth's first day of home-school and he could not wait for it to begin.  He was up, dressed and out the door all on his own!

Seth's first project will be building a desk.  Mr. & Mrs. O have designed his learning for the first week around the creating and constructing of the desk he will be working from.  He was SO excited!  He had to measure for his desk today, then they headed off to Lowes to purchase the needed supplies.  He got his first spellling list today and his words all go with what he will be building.

One of the blessings of home-schooling is it will afford us a more flexible schedule.  One of the things we have struggled with is our family day.  The weekend's are Greg's busiest days and Seth is out of school.  Friday is Greg's day off and Seth is in school.  This Friday will be our first day to spend together in a long time!!  Friday's are now Family Day for us and we look forward to all the wonderful things we will be able to do together.

Another blessing is we get to travel with Daddy!!  Next week we will be heading north for some fall foiliage.  This has created the opportunity for a wonderful unit study on "Fall".  A season we know little about in Florida.  We will get to look at "why" the leaves change colors and fall of the trees.  What brings the cool weather?  Also, we will be doing a leaf study complete with real samples!  We are so excited about this hands-on opportunity that Seth will get to experience and the cooler weather to go with it!

Rain, Rain and more Rain...
We really needed the rain -- I just keep telling myself that and thanking God for the rain He has showered us with in abundance!! Even though it is crazy soggy!!!

As we've done all week, Seth and I made our way to Daytonat this morning in the pouring rain. We got there and did'nt see many cars in the parking lot. I thought that was a little odd but didn't put two and two together until I drove around to Seth's classroom. There we saw signs on the door saying "No School Today!" It didn't give an explanation, just "No School." I thought that this was somewhat odd and of course my day was now taking a completely different turn! As I was leaving I saw one of the staff members walking across campus and stopped to ask what had happened. He informed me that several of the school teachers had experienced flooding in one way or another over the night. Several simply could not get out of their streets because there were so many flooded and closed streets in Volusia. One teacher had a tree fall on her house, another lives in a two story condo and had 2 inches of standing water in the first floor as well as in her car! I felt so bad for them - especially knowing that several of the teachers are single and I can only imagine how something like flooding could affect them! If you remeber, please pray for these wonderful teachers who were affected by the flooding.

Even though we drove to school for nothing, I was thankful that God had once again kept us safe on the roads. And now, Seth had a free day - the options where endless!!! We kept it simple, mainly due to the fact it was still raining heavily in Daytona. So, we headed to the Port Orange Library. We went into the children's center and Seth sat down at a computer next to another little girl from his class at school. They spent the morning playing on the comupter and reading books together. They really had a nice time. Then we decided to go check out some videos so we could go home snuggle on the couch and enjoy! We watched "The Shaggy Dog" and "One Night with the King." We had not seen either one of them and they were both great! We really enjoyed "One Night with the King." If you haven't seen it - we highly recommed it! And we saved the best for last -- "The Sound of Music." One of our favorites!

Now it's off to bed. Seth's principal just called and confirmed school is open tomorrow and now I even get to attend! This time I had my choice -- fourth grade or K-4. Tough decision (not), so fourth graders - here I come!

...On our way to drying out!

Dismissed......

Last week I got to babysit for my precious new nephew, Davis Anderson. We had "played" :) for a while and then he was fighting sleep in the worst way. He finally fell asleep on the couch beside me. A little while later Greg and Seth came in the door and Seth walked over to me immediately, looked at Davis and said to me "Mom, you can go now, I've got this, I'll talke care of Davis now. I've got it - you go do what you gotta do!"

I realized quickly - I had been dismissed!! And yes, Seth really does this he "has it under control!" Seth loves having a baby cousin. He is all into Davis and has even changed his diaper twice already! I still think he is a little dissapointed everytime we see him and he still isn't walking yet! He expects to really "play" with him everytime. But he is so sweet with him and that has been really fun to watch. He loves "taking care" of him!

What I missed the most...

Last week I was able to make a last minute trip to TX to surprise my parents, mainly my dad. April 14th was my Dad's and my brother's birthday. What do you get for your dad for his 60th birthday. I could not think of one thing. I went online Sunday night and just for curiosity sake looked at what a flight to Dallas would cost and I found a ticket for $200!! I couldn't believe it!! So we decided that their gift would be a surprise visit! They loved it and we had a blast. I was able to spend time with my parents, help my mom with Dad's party, and got to spend time with my brother, sister-in-law and my three precious nieces!!

Tonight at dinner Greg asked Seth "What did you miss about Mommy while she was gone?" And he answered "Hugs and kisses!" Hearing that was worth being gone a few days! So we spent the rest of the evening up until bedtime catching up on our hugs and kisses! It was wonderful!!!

I hope I never get so busy that I miss those precious moments!

I love being Seth's mom!
